Dear HT Family
At Holy Trinity we have an annual opportunity as we approach Advent to give an additional gift to the life of the Church. This is an opportunity for us as a community to respond to God’s abundant love for us.
Our next Gift Day is on the 24th November.
During November we have been considering the vision that God has given to us at Holy Trinity:
A vision that we would be a transforming presence in Sydenham & Forest Hill;
that we would grow to three services of 100 people attending each; and that we will support and plant churches in South East London.
It’s a big vision. I continue to believe that this not just our small human vision but God’s extravagant vision for our community.
God has given us this bold vision and it therefore requires us to be bold with the decisions we make as a church.
One such bold decision has been in expanding our staff team to help grow and develop our thriving children’s ministry. I look forward to welcoming two new people to our staff team over the next month. Thank you to everyone who has supported our kids’ ministry, both on a Sunday and midweek. I hope you will be encouraged by this addition to your team.
A bold vision leads us to make bold choices about how we use our church space. As I write, we are in the process of relocating our office to a room adjacent to the stage. This enables our current office space to be transformed into a multi-purpose room. One effect of this change is providing desperately needed space for our Sunday kids’ ministry. In addition, we have also been awarded a grant from Lewisham Council to install multi-sensory equipment into this room. This allows us to be a transforming presence for local families with children and young people with additional needs.
The bold vision we have also leads us to make bold choices about how we engage with our local community. In the New Year we hope to run The Marriage Course to support and encourage married and long-term cohabiting couples. This seven-week course is something we can extend an invitation to friends or family to attend.
I am aware that Holy Trinity is situated within a diverse community, which contains both pockets of wealth and pockets of deprivation. In 2020 we are planning to establish a summer lunch scheme for local families who experience food poverty during the school holidays.
What can you do? Firstly, you can pray. Please pray and seek where God is calling us. Secondly, you can support these projects. One way is by offering your time to be on team throughout the year. Finally, could you prayerfully consider giving an additional gift on the 24th November toward this bold vision?
Thank you for all that you do to contribute to the life of our community at Holy Trinity. I am really looking forward to journeying together through Advent and celebrating the joyful news of our Saviour’s birth.
Yours faithfully in Christ,
Rev Edd Stock
